Quantifying the Influence of Gleason 6 Disease Labeling... - Dr. Alejandro Berlin

This video is a recording of Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada's 2024 Prostate Cancer Awareness Month Active Surveillance Support Group meeting held over Zoom. Dr. Ale Berlin is a staff clinician-scientist radiation oncologist at the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Center. He completed his training in Chile, Israel, and Canada. His clinical practice focuses on the discovery and clinical evaluation of novel therapeutics capitalizing on genomic characterization genitourinary malignancies, and advanced molecular and MR imaging. Dr. Berlin is a PI of the NRG GU010 study investigating the use of clinicogenomic risk stratification for treatment individualization in men with localized prostate cancer. Dr. Berlin also leads a clinical initiative quantifying the human and machine performance during the clinical deployment of an in-house developed AI radiotherapy planning method for prostate cancer. Dr. Alejandro Berlin speaks here on the impact of Gleason 6 being labelled as 'cancer' on treatment decision-making. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at the Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands before re-locating to Canada. What can you expect from our support group?

  • A confidential, safe space that provides a forum for those who have been affected by prostate cancer for days, months, years, or even decades.

  • An opportunity to gain a sense of empowerment over your diagnosis through the sharing of collective experience - from being diagnosed to navigating treatment options and managing the side effects that may accompany the chosen treatment(s).

  • A place for you to speak comfortably about uncomfortable topics like erectile dysfunction, incontinence, and anxiety.

The GBTQ Prostate Cancer Support Group invites you to join their online meetings on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 3:00 pm Pacific/6:00 pm Eastern.
